My 2011 election manifesto and other details:

My 1999 Election Manifesto for Deputy of St Peter's Parish Elections.

ELECTION FOR DEPUTY OF
 St Peters Parish.
On The 24th of November 1999.
Please Vote Linda Corby  X
1999 me

I am standing for Deputy of St Peters Parish because I am fed up of hearing politicians promising one thing, then doing the opposite once elected. The States wasting money on ludicrous showpieces disillusions me. I believe in the old saying, "look after your own first!" Things like trying to stop the Islands children from having free milk at school are exceptionally petty. In an Island with such wealth, home to the world-renowned Jersey Cow, I personally find this preposterous!

POPULATION: I would support any effective immigration policies presented to the house.  As this would not only help keep down the population but also vet any criminal element which might otherwise find its way into the Island.

ECONOMY: The decline in Tourism and Agriculture must somehow be stopped and hopefully reversed. Laws must be brought in to stop price fixing cartels.

HOUSING: Jersey’s overpopulation is causing a dreadful housing problem.  Immigration control, along with some other tough decisions have to be made!

LEGISLATURE AND JUDICIARY:The system as it stands is anything but democratic.  The machinery of Government review is presently taking place and I will if elected study carefully its recommendations, but will only support what I consider to be in the best long term interests of the Island.  The legislature and judiciary in my opinion should be 100% separated from each other!
With a democratic government would make for a much brighter future, and I feel everyone would be happier.

ENVIRONMENT: Protecting Jersey’s environment is very close to my heart.  However in some cases more humanity is needed!  We are all part of the system, and we all deserve to live in peace, be happy in our environment.  I believe this could be achieved.  People who have grown up in the countryside should not be forced to then leave it and their families.
If elected, I undertake to be an active effective States Member. I will represent The Parishioners of St Peter's to the best of my ability.  I have lived in St Peter's Parish for 25 years, and care deeply about quality of life! I would be fully approachable, conscientious, and hard working.
I do have the courage of my convictions.  I'm not interested in bucking the system, rather improving the quality of life for people hopefully with the cooperation of other States Members.  Either way I would be in the people's corner.

Who I am.

I am a 46-year-old wife and mother. I came to live in Jersey with my parents in the 1960's as a young teenager. I am happily married to a Jersey Born man for 26 years now.  I am a strong character with a soft nature. My husband Brian and I ran our own small business for 25 years.  Being self-employed I know how hard it is for small businesses to survive.  Stress affected my husband's health.

After discussing the issue between us Brian decided to go back to his trade as an electrician working for an employer.  This has allowed me the freedom to stand for Deputy.  I've my husband's full backing; he knows how resolutely I feel the compulsion to help the people of Jersey, especially the Parishioners of St Peters Parish, having lived in the Parish 25 years. I want to listen to the wishes of the people and do my best to reflect what the community want!

I cannot create miracles no one can, but I feel the more people we have in the States who truly care the more chance we have of a better future, I do care, and I wouldn't be standing for election otherwise!  I'm motivated and have vision.

I can do nothing to try and change things without your vote; if you want change please do cast your vote, for every single vote matters, or your voice cannot be heard!

I have two daughters one married 25 years old and one of 9 years old. My oldest daughter's been accepted for Australia; leaves Jersey on the 10/01/2000.  She sees this as her only way to afford a home of her own and have children.  I will be very sad to see her leave Jersey, it is the place of her birth, but fully understand her reasons, she has the right to quality of life, the young people of Jersey aren't given that chance presently.   This has made me more adamant to help the people of Jersey in any way I can to improve the quality of life.

Too many Jersey families have already been split up!

I am constantly meeting people whose children have left or are leaving the Island.  Apart from the young, many others are including retired people are also leaving the Island, purely because they feel they cannot afford to stay.  Every year more and more people are falling into the poverty trap.   I would like to do something constructive to reverse this trend.  An after school club could be a start. The safety of our children and family values are a priority of mine.

Please consider voting for me when voting for the St Peters Parish Deputy election on the 24th of November 1999. Thank You.
